President's Message

May 2024

As I begin this month’s President report, I know all of you are on pins and needles to find out how the Lodi Cluster went. You are in luck, not only have I sent Don Golnick all of the show results, but I’ve included some pictures as well. In a nutshell, moving our specialty to Lodi was a good move, whew! We had all kinds of weather, from 83 degrees to rain and wind in the 50’s. There was much talk about moving our ring indoors due to rain, but as it turned out that would have meant a smaller ring; not a good move for sporting dogs. So we stayed in the rain. Peggy Davis and Jackie Allen did a wonderful job with the trophies, and were able to keep them dry! Ann Smith, Cindy Stanford and Carolyn Benjamin took the lead and set up our Yappy Hour under our member’s tents and we had a short, but soggy General meeting. We had some wonderful appetizers and lots of laughs and even took care of some club business. Thank you to all members who contributed food, drink and cups.

Recently, I was approached in regards to once again sponsoring an ISCP Hunt Test. If you are interested in helping out, please send me an email. In addition, I was also contacted about an All Setter (English, Irish, Irish Red and White and Gordon) walking field trial. Mainly, I was asked about members who would be interested in entering their setters. I love the idea of seeing all four Setters in the field, and will be glad to forward you information if you are interested.

Those of us who also enjoy Conformation, are excited about our upcoming Irish Setter National Dog Show, to be held in Asheville, North Carolina. It begins Monday, May 6, and concludes on Saturday May, 11. We are very excited that our own, Cindy Stanford, has been asked and accepted to judge sweepstakes. This is quite an honor and we are very proud of her. Monday, May 13, the conformation judging begins in New York City, for the Westminster Kennel Club. Sporting dogs show on Tuesday. There are 15 Irish Setters entered this year, including two of our own. Please keep your fingers crossed and positive vibes to Pete, GCHB Rusticwoods For Pete’s Sake, owned by Ann and Gordon Smith, (Pete was also our National Dog Show Winner last year), and for Boo, GCH Roclyn Got it? Haunt it, owned by Sandy and John Barrett. I’ve asked Don Golnick to include the complete viewing schedule in this month’s Tails to be Red. Remember, both shows are on the east coast, so they are 3 hours earlier than Pacific Standards time. You will be able to ‘live stream’ both of them through AKC.TV and Westminster KC.

Our club will once a gain have a supported entry at Woofstock, (Vallejo) to be held June 6-9. This is the last year the show will be 4 days. There is an early closing date of May 15. Hosting clubs are: Yosemite Kennel Club, and Contra Costa Kennel Club. You can find entry information on infodog.com. It would be nice to see you there.

Pat Manrique has been working very hard to organize our Annual Awards Day in the Park. We will meet at the Boone Acres Park, in San Ramone, July 20. Patty Aronica has once again offered CGC, TKN testing. I know she has also recently been certified for the new Fetch program as well. We will also have our annual pot luck and General Meeting. More information to follow.

In closing, be sure to hug those red dogs!

Sincerely,
Sandy
